In the era of AI, should we trust GPT or media?

Time:2025-10-29 02:30:45

What kind of changes will the news industry experience when AI enters our lives, and how many people will still maintain the habit of subscribing to media? Furthermore, what chain reactions will the changes in media have on AI tools that rely on it for nourishment? On September 27-28, Western Time, the first Silicon Valley Future Summit - NEX-T Summit 2025 focuses on the trends and impacts of artificial intelligence, exploring the infinite possibilities of the "next step". On the first day of the summit, during the roundtable dialogue on "AI, Media, and Public Trust," several renowned journalists and media professionals discussed the impact of AI on the news industry and information chain. The summit, themed "New Era of X-Tech," was jointly organized by Titanium Media Group, NextFin.AI, GALA (Global Asian Leadership Alliance), Shanda Group, and Barron's China, attracting more than 400 entrepreneurs, investors, scientists, and policy makers from around the world to discuss AI trends, investment strategies, women's leadership, healthy future, and new trends in venture capital at the Stanford University venue. What is media in the era of AI? As long as there are enough media professionals present, you will always hear people discussing the topic of 'media death'. Television is here, people will say 'broadcasting is dying'; When the Internet comes, people will say "paper media is dying" and "television is dying"; When self media comes, people will also say 'traditional media is going to die'. Some of these concerns or assertions are becoming a reality, while others, like the Ship of Theseus, have gradually reshaped and changed themselves, as well as the problem itself. So, in the era of AI, what life and death challenges will media face? How many ships of Theseus will set sail again under new opportunities? In the view of Adi Ignatius, the editor in chief of Harvard Business Review, the core of the problem lies in "trust", which is also the essence of the establishment of modern journalism. In today's era, the so-called golden world or high threshold of professional media has long been shattered, and people's attention and trust are increasingly shifting from media institutions to individuals. However, the objectivity and public level authenticity have become increasingly blurred as a result. Artificial intelligence is considered by some to be an excellent tool for balancing trust and authenticity, but Ignatius pointed out the key issue in the roundtable conversation: the AI big model is good, but it is built on the content of professional media such as The New York Times and refuses to provide compensation for these media nutrients. From this perspective, while AI replaces professional media, it may also dilute its own nutrients, and trust will still be a problem at that time. For the future, Ignatius candidly admitted that he has not yet seen any media create a "model" that can help him survive in the upcoming impact.
